Ph.D. graduate research assistant position

One Ph.D. graduate research assistant position is available in the Department of Civil Engineering at New Mexico State University (NMSU). Up to three years of their graduate research assistantship will be funded by the department and they will be expected to work with me to initiate externally funded projects. The students will work on water resources informatics and modeling using computational methods. As members of the Computing Lab for Advanced Water Resources Informatics and Modeling (CLAWRIM), they will have opportunities to learn water resources modeling using various Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and optimization methods. They will also apply machine learning techniques to hydroinformatics problems.

Minimum qualifications include

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering,
  • M.S. in Water Resources Engineering,
  • Records of peer-reviewed journal publications in English,
  • Strong background in numerical methods,
  • Experience in hydrologic and/or hydraulic modeling (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWAT, SWMM, VIC, etc.),
  • Experience in applications of machine learning to water resources problems, and
  • Proven programming skills in any computer languages with a strong motivation to learn any of R, Python, C, and/or C# as needed.
