Application Process
CLAWRIM accepts graduate students only when funded positions are available.
When funding is available, a call for applications will be posted on this website and the PI’s LinkedIn account, and applications will be collected through a structured online form.
Unsolicited email inquiries are not reviewed.
Research Focus
CLAWRIM is a computational methods lab working at the intersection of computer science and hydrology.
Research areas include:
- Algorithm design for hydrologic and hydraulic systems
- High-performance and parallel computing
- Memory-efficient raster processing
- Scientific software development
- Open-source cyberinfrastructure
- Reproducible computational workflows
- Hybrid physics–ML method development
This lab operates at the method-development layer of environmental modeling.
Required Background
Prospective students must demonstrate:
- Independent programming experience beyond coursework
- Experience implementing non-trivial computational methods
- Familiarity with Linux and Git
- Comfort with command-line workflows
A public GitHub repository with original scientific code is required as part of the application.
This lab assumes prior algorithmic maturity and does not provide foundational programming training.
Alignment
Before applying, prospective students should:
- Read at least one first-author publication by the PI or a CLAWRIM team member (see journal articles)
- Review the lab’s software repositories
- Ensure strong alignment with computational method development
